Visual Based Learning
Visual based learning refers to the usage of visual elements to aid or supplement the learning experience in a classroom. The elements do not explicitly have to be through physical representations of objects, as any visual stimulus can elicit this categorization.
Benefits of Visual Based Learning
Teaching using methods that promote visual based learning can reduce cognitive load on students, as they can provide conceptualization of topics that otherwise would have been hard to grasp. Additionally, students can use visual tools and compare with other students, increasing the sense of community within the classroom.
Downsides to Visual Based Learning
For some students, information provided in a visual manner can sometimes provoke more questions rather than reducing them. Consequently, this would increase cognitive load on the students in question, making this style harmful. In addition to this, the quality of the visuals are crucial to the benefit of the class. If your visuals are unclear, cluttered, and unorganized, your students will have a hard time navigating the message behind it!
