Introduction

Theories for Style is an informative webpage which seeks to give theoretical justification behind three teaching strategies which are commonly used in high school mathematics. We can’t teach without knowing how and why it affects our students!

Goals

  • To inform mathematics teachers on how students are affected by their teaching methods
  • To provide relevant theory behind common teaching practices
  • To show specific examples how to use theoretically backed strategies in the classroom

What is Style?

Unlike the textile industry, style as a teacher does not refer to how snazzy we dress. In the education space, style refers to a categorization used to generalize the methods by which an educator instructs. In the early stages of this page, we will focus on three teaching styles and the types of learning that they promote: styles which promote Visual Based Learning, styles which promote Rote Learning Methods, and styles which emphasize using Real Life Examples.
